Music Festival Ready

Image
Credit: Coachella Coachella has kicked off festival season in all its wonderful, sweaty, fringed glory. With dozens of more events on the docket for summer 2017 (Summerfest, Bonnaroo, and Pitchfork to name a few), music fans are flocking from all across the globe to hear their favorite bands and enjoy a carefree, unforgettable weekend of fun in the sun. If you're of of these lucky festival-goers, after you've purchased your tickets one big decision still remains - what will you wear? Yes, because aside from the alway-amazing sites, people watching and performances, we know that these festivals are also significant fashion events (isn't that the sole motive some of us even sign up to go in the first place?!). Some popular fashion pieces of last year's round-up included: chokers, suede hats, statement coin necklaces, flare pants, lace-up tops, flower crowns (yes, they're STILL doing that), whispy whites and gladiator sandals. While many of these will undoubted...

What is Upcycling?

Image
via here I had a déjà vu moment today when I woke up and checked my inbox.  I came across this inspirational article from Ecouterre .  The topic was about upcycling tips for emerging designers.  This particular article was a great reminder that upcycling as a method for creative fashion design can still be achieved and admired. I started Mei Vintage with the vision of turning the old into something new.  The focal point of my design was to incorporate vintage kimonos and turn it into a unique collection of earthy timeless handbags .  At first it sounded like a simple idea, but the process turned out to be not so simple.  It was a challenge to find unwanted materials and keeping production methods as cost effective and sustainable as possible.  With a lot of research and determination, I finally had a clear vision.  The result was to use a combination of new, recycled and organic materials while keeping all production locally.  During...

Last week I attended the largest fashion tradeshow in Vegas called Magic !   There were wonderful leather handbag s to be seen. We were there to showcase our new collection at the POOLTRADESHOW that focused on art and design driven brands.  It was a jammed packed three day show filled with fashion, entertainment and lots of selling.  Here's a behind the scene look: Setting up our booth at Mandalay Bay Convention Center: Sharing a booth with Kori, a talanted hat designer of Flipside Hats based in Oregon. Me and Kyla from Flipside Hats showing off our trend at Style Stalker Studio A snapshot of the giant fashion marketplace at POOLTRADESHOW !  Check out the displays, fashion, entertainment and art! After a successful show at Magic, I had a free day to relax and unwind!  We spent a day walking around Vegas strip.  2012 is the year of the dragon and Bellagio created this amazing Chinese themed flower garden surrounded by dragons!  ...

Year of the Dragon

Image
Good bye 2011. Hello 2012!! Year of the Dragon holds a special place in my heart for the Chinese Zodiac sign.  My grandmother, who is the proud owner of the  mini dumpling satchel , she was  born in the year of the Dragon, and she's the sweetest old lady.  She's such a great female role model.  Her ambition, wisdom, and passion for life holds true to her fierce dragon personality.   Aside from my bias, the Dragon is the most treasured sign because it is the mightiest of them all.  That means we’re all in for a mighty good year! Dragons tend to be dominant, very successful and ambitious. Dragons are driven, unafraid of challenges, and are risk-takers. So get ready, I think this year is going to be powerful!  Speaking of getting ready for a brand new year...   I was in search of a lucky charm the other day and I came across these adorable Chinese zodiac charm necklaces from a New York based jewelry designer, Alex Woo .  They are jus...
